How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
My dad took me to Brafield when it first started and he became a fan first of Bozzy Bosworth 22 who knew my uncle and later our local hero Aubrey Leighton 42.
What gave you the incentive to race
I got to helping John 269 and Barry 270 Rogers. I used to help them build cars as part of Team Rogers. They encouraged me to race.
First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
After a time the Rogers brothers who built a new car each winter decided that they should keep the old third retired car and I could race it initially under No 215. I never owned a car - just raced their spare car. I moved away in 1975 but returned in 1978 and started racing again under the same arrangement under No 271. Barry and John remain good friends and I am godfather to Simon Rogers
Memory of your first race.
I cannot remember it! but it was at Brafield.
Best Racing Memory
It has got to be coming 5th in the European Championship televised on World of Sport with Dicky Davies. It is on You Tube! I still wheel it out for the kids from time to time.
Worst Racing Memory
Hitting the fence very hard in the old Ex Ray Pearce ex Rogers jag powered car, uprooting a fence post and being carted off to Northampton General Hospital with concussion. The car pretty much ended its career at that point.
Reason for Retiring
Married with young newborns and a demanding job refocused my priorities, but I still continued to mechanic for Team Rogers and have continuously remained interested as a spectator when they retired and as part of team Simon Rogers 277 in F2
After Retiring - What Then?
Became a director of the York Trailer Company eventually Managing Director of York Technical Services, before buying into King Trailers Limited where I eventually became 100% owner. I sold the company in June 2016 but still work for the new owners - and am happy to be watching Barry Rogers son, Matt Rogers 213 take to the track this year.
