DRIVER INTERVIEW

How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
I went with my uncle Chris Lloyd no.11 and 284 to Long Eaton in the late 50s early 60s. Soon became a fan of Ellis Ford #1833, Willie #2, Trevor Frost #64, Aubrey Leighton #42 and then along came the Yank - Jim Berg. Most weekends we would go to Belle Vue, Coventry, Long Eaton. I guess I was hooked then! Chris then built his first car and I remember going to the toons at Whitwick for parts as he raced under no.11 in 196263.

What gave you the incentive to race
Fast forward to 1979 after racing a "Mallock" for a few seasons ( and meeting Alex Ferrada #171) I decided along with our Chris to take the plunge and buy a car between us.

First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
Went to Rochdale and saw the "For Sale" sign on Simon Gills #280 car. We did a deal and bought it between us. Chris would race it under 284 and me under 287 , (Sorry our kid, but got fed up repairing it for you!) Ha Ha! So he bought Bryan Warners #90 car and I re-chassised the Gill car fitting a 429 cu inch Ford in the process.

Memory of your first race.
Long Eaton 1979 - pulled up in lane to pits, pits where full, John Hillam #229 came up and told us 1 or 2 points to adjust, flag goes down and I thought "*@+#"? Hell" - If I am going to have a go, might need a bit more power because everybody flew past me!!!

Best Racing Memory
Loads of them - loved every minute! I guess if there had to be one, it has to be winning Daily Mirror Final as a white top at my second favourite track super Sheffield

Worst Racing Memory
Haven't got one really. I remember nearly biting my lip off after having a huge roll at Leicester, that one taught me to keep me gob shut!!! (Ha Ha!)

Reason for Retiring
Got a bit disallusioned with me last car. Could not get it to run right, Super Stu drove it at Bradford and pulled up in every race, so I thought "Well if he cant make it go, what chance have I got" So I sold it to Harry Smith #100

After Retiring - What Then?
GOD! I retired over 20 yrs ago, so a lots gone on. Used to go to the occasional meet at Coventry, still deal in Austin Healeys . I had a lot to do with Brian Powles until he sadly passed away. Still keep in touch with Closey, Alan Wright, Lennie and Les Mitchell. Enjoyed young Chris #284 getting to red top. Run me pub, love my Harley Davidson (when i get chance!) Most important just about to be a grandfather for the first time.
