I had followed stock car racing virtually from the beginning, mainly at Belle Vue as it was easy to reach from Crewe by public transport. In 1992 I was working and living in Hong Kong, but contacted Frankie Wainman to hire his rental car for the Crewe meeting on August 15th. I raced in a couple of heats, and remember needing a push start from John Lund, who was with me on the back row. I enjoyed it so much I signed up with Frankie to race the following Sunday at Buxton. I did better there, perhaps because there was no mud flying around as there had been at Crewe and I could see where I was going. At all events I qualified for the final, although then I had a DNF as a result of a gear box problem. Nonetheless they gave me a [small] as the most promising rookie! I suppose that as I was living in Hong Kong at the time, my details should show Hong Kong and not Crewe, which I guess might make me unique in BRISCA history? Anyway, I now live in France and get to UK meetings at least 6 times a year.
