How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
I have been going to stockcars since I was 18 months old with my mum. My god father is Ken Griffiths (57) the potato merchant from Walkden Manchester. He was among the first to race American V8 engines and build the cars we know of today.
What gave you the incentive to race
As a teenager about 15, i was invited to spanner for Steve Evans(108), who I still see now and then. When I was 19, I lost my mum. I went on the spanners with Bill McGowan(369). This is when i met Kev Smith(64). I went to Meltham Mills go-kart track with Kev and Neil Brigg(87) on a couple of occasions. I think Pete Hearn was there and a few others from stock cars at this time the karts had bumpers on them.
First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
Kev got me my first f1 by introducing me to Howard Rhodes. I bought his car for about £500 . I put a head gasket set on it and changed a number to 463 and painted the white rose of Yorkshire to the red rose of Lancashire.
Memory of your first race.
My first race was at Bolton about 2 miles from home, I remember being on the grid sat behind Peter Falding #33 thinking I'm on the wrong side of the fence. I was chuffed to bits when I finished I had raced a f1 and finished.
Best Racing Memory
My best result was a fourth at Crewe with the King of Crewe Mr Beresford(260) taking the honours.
Worst Racing Memory
I took the car to Crewe on one occasion we rolled on the way there closing the by pass
Reason for Retiring
I have raced less than 20 times and stopped when my son was born I had no proper sponsors and was a real low budget racer.
After Retiring - What Then?
A few years later I went to spanner for Kev Smith (64) until he emigrated to NZ. Now i have 3 kids and can be seen mainly at Belle Vue with a pink pushchair with my little girl, she loves it more than my 12 yr old son and I have yet to introduce my youngest son but he will be there next season probably need a new pushchair as he's not keen on pink!!
