DRIVER INTERVIEW

Completed by Cliff Else (Son)

How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
I think my Dad found out about F1s when we went to Harringay, while he raced his Spedeworth Stockcar #801

What gave you the incentive to race
First Spedeworth car was a Consil Mark 1, which he wrecked doing a spectacular roll over, front over back a few times. Commentator said it was the best he had seen!! Then he got a MG Magnet which at the time thay all used. After racing for spedeworth he had a break from racing and went to more f1 meetings. Eventually getting the bug to have a go.

First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
Dad got a car from Ben Spiers #312 for the front and back axles, then had a car built by #348 Tony Allen before Tony emigrated to New Zealand.

Memory of your first race.
When he first sat in the car ready to race, he thought "What the heck am I doing in here!!". The car had trouble going round the bends, found out first time by my Dad going full pelt down the straight, turning left but car went straight on and broke the fence. This delayed the Brafield (Now Northampton) meeting for two hours!!

Best Racing Memory
My best racing memory of my Dad, was when he got 8th racing on tarmac but driving it as if the car was on shale, clipping a car and nearly putting his front wheel in the cab of Ann Bedford's which shook her.

Worst Racing Memory
Worst bit was dad having no brakes again but the silver lining was the man himself "Stuart Smith Snr" trying to help solve the problem. Even though I was a Chissy fan, I was in ore of the "Boss" though.

Reason for Retiring
Reason for retiring : Dad hurt his back

After Retiring - What Then?
Dad is a co-ordinator of a fourm which is all about Warships, which he enjoys a lot.
