How did you find Brisca F1 Stock Cars?
I was asked if i would like a trip to Brafield by a family in the same village as i lived. I said yes as i have always been interested in motor sport in all categories. I was hooked. This was 1967. From then on we never missed a southern meeting that year.
What gave you the incentive to race
Always wanted to have a go in some sort of motor sport, Brisca F1 seemed to be the answer.
First Car - Built, Bought or Borrowed
I saw a car for sale in the Stock Car Magazine. I got a mate with a trailer to pick it up from Brandon in Norfolk with loads of spares. This was late 1968. I think the driver came from Sherringham. Spent the winter getting car, trailer and Thames van ready for start of 69 season. End of season sold van and bought a Buick car for towing.
Memory of your first race.
Got accepted for first race at Harringay June 21. Started at the front, managed to do 2 laps then ended up in a tangle with H. Moody#128, D. Budden#25, and someone else i forget. We made the September cover of Stock Car Magazine.
Best Racing Memory
So many, but finishing any races with the likes of 391,375,348,100,38.37, etc, many who are not with us now, but must still remain as some of the best memories any driver can have.
Worst Racing Memory
It must be the one i told David Kipling for his website, when i was going down the pits straight in my 2nd race at Harringay. You think you are going fast but then Reg Pryor#109 comes up behind you and helps you go faster. I never made the pits bend, ended up in the fence. Shoulders black for weeks.
Reason for Retiring
Like a lot of others have said, money. More money was being spent on larger size engines in race tuned condition, the ordinary man could not compete any more without some sort of sponsorship.
After Retiring - What Then?
I got married. Took up woodwork which i was always interested in. Still watch all forms of motor sport. Watched with interest Gears and Tears on TV. Dont like the way stock cars have evolved with these wings on the roofs.
