Granite Surface - 350 Yards Old Timers will remember that the pits where sited on the recreation ground across the main road from the stadium. The Police had to stop the traffic at the end of each heat to allow the cars and breakdown lorries to be removed from the stadium and the next batch of cars for the next heat to cross the road into the stadium. For this gesture of "traffic control" the Police were then allowed into the stadium to watch the racing!!! Can you imagine that happening today?!!!! Oh Happy Bygone Days!!!!!!! A stadium loved by many, and the second to Belle Vue that spectators and drivers would love to see return to the sport.
