Opened to F1's on 28th August 1954, with Bernie Ecclestone (F1 Grand Prix Supremo) racing a few times under 499A and winning a race. Massive arena was said to house 80,000 spectators, yet only held two World Finals - 1961 & 1965. Four meetings were held in 1966 before its closure to F1's with the site being redeveloped in the seventies.
