Allan started his racing career in 1971, no doubt after spending many years as a mechanic or advisor. He finished the season as yellow, as he did in 1972, but 1973 saw a blue roof, then Star grade in 1974.
Allan also built many cars in his time, some very successful but some that just wouldn't work.
Retiring from the sport in 1977, Allan became Stuart Bamforth's right hand man in re-vamping Bradford for the 1978 season.
Allan did make a few more appearances, but ceased to register a licence after 1990.
"Former drivers Chairman of some standing, and heavily involved with Stuart Bamforth in transforming Odsal back in 1977, Alan was an outstanding character of the sport during a major period of the sports evolution and someone who made things happen.
A source of sound advice, constructive criticism and ideas to me personally, he will be sorely missed.
A bluff yorkshireman, Allan was never one to mince words however made a massive impact upon the sport and made many lasting friends over the years.
Allan Barker is one of the sports legends" : STEVE REES 2006
