Johnny was the first driver to win the World Championship on three occasions - 1956, 1959 & 1960.
Although Johnny's racing career was short, 1954 to 1961 he did remain linked to the sport for many years after. Johnny was a founder member of the Veterans Society and remained a key member right up to his death.
The Veteran's Society then introduced an annual event, whereby past drivers could take part in a one off race in current drivers cars.
It proved a great success as the old drivers were tempted back behind the wheel and the younger generation got to see the likes of Stuart Smith #391, Dave Chisholm #252, Willie Harrison #2, Gordon Smith #293 & Glyn Pursey #175 etc on track performing.
No race details for years 1984 & 1997.
After 2005, Insurance was too high for the race to take place and subsequently the Veteran's race was not run again.
